New Hibiscus

The last couple of winters we've had some hard freezes, which were really rough on my favorite plant, a bright red hibiscus. We cut it back, and just in the last week or so, it's finally putting out a few leaves, but who knows if it will ever bloom again. So while it's recovering, I had to get a new hibiscus. Now how can I make it keep having lots of nice blossoms?

Family

It was great to have visiting cousins in town yesterday as an excuse to get a bunch of family together. Let's do this again soon!

Friends

Last week was an exceptional one for two of our oldest (in time known, not in age) friends. Mr. Beisbolfan's friend since grade school had a major health scare, and my friend since 4th grade was in town. What would we do without friends?

Mt. Lykaion, Arcadia, Peloponnese, Greece

One of the highlights of my recent trip to Greece was our visit to Mt. Lykaion. It was the site of a Zeus sanctuary in the 5th century B.C., and Panhellenic games similar to the ancient Olympic games were held there. We were lucky to have two of the current excavators of Mt. Lykaion leading our group, one from the University of Arizona, and one from the University of Pennsylvania. Here's our group at Mt. Lykaion.

Preview of coming attractions

My mom & I just got back from a fabulous trip to Greece; more specifically, a circumnavigation of the Peloponnese. I took over 900 pictures, and I'm trying to figure out how to deal with them. Here's a sample:

More to come when I figure out what to do, and how to describe this wonderful time.

Home decor

My mom gave me a box of kleenex that matched a nice, big beach bag she gave me. I haven't been to the beach yet, but the kleenex box matches my bathroom towels perfectly.

Spring is in the air

I was afraid that after the lush greenery of Florida, the desert would look brown and bleak. But springtime in the desert is one of the best times of the year. And nothing feels more like spring than daffodils from Trader Joe's. Happy spring to everyone!
